About Artarios

Our atelier, our story

Studio Artarios began with us, Artemis & Nektarios in Athens, Greece. Today, our daughter Eleftheria carries it forward as her own, weaving a new chapter into the story we began. Inspired by Byzantine and Coptic bookbinding, we bring ancient craft to life through handmade zibaldone notebooks, where fine papers and textiles become a home for thoughts.

Our atelier is a place where time softens and the world grows quiet. Here, each zibaldone takes shape by hand, ready to hold your sparkling ideas, passing thoughts, sketches, and discoveries.

A name carried through time

Our name looks to ancient Persia; our craft, to the early bookbinders of Egypt.   Together, they tell a story of words and the hands that carry them through time.

Written in cuneiform in our logo, Artarios echoes the ancient world that inspired us. Artarios was a son of Xerxes I, Satrap of Babylonia in the ancient Achaemenid Persian Empire. Our Coptic binding continues that conversation through a craft rooted in second-century Egypt, with exposed stitches that hold each notebook together and allow its pages to open flat.

These two threads meet in every zibaldone we make by hand in Athens. A name from the past, a binding passed through generations, and pages waiting for something entirely your own.

An ancient craft, made for the thoughts of today

Bound by hand with traditional Coptic stitching, each zibaldone opens flat to 180°, giving your hand room to move and your ideas space to unfold. From the choice of paper and textiles to the rhythm of the thread, every detail is part of the pleasure of making a notebook for you.

Our limited-edition notebooks are designed, printed, and handmade in Athens, Greece. Especially for you.

A home for your thoughts

We believe in the beauty of writing by hand. Away from the glow of a screen, a blank page offers room to pause, to notice, and to hear your own thoughts.

A zibaldone is more than somewhere to keep words.

It is a companion to the life you are living: a gathering of

memories, questions, and possibilities.

Whether you write a single line or fill a page,

we hope yours becomes a place you return to.
